Davis McDowell was tabbed All-Big West Conference Honorable Mention as the league announced its annual awards Thursday.
A redshirt freshman, McDowell made his collegiate debut during the 2021-22 season, playing in 10 of the Tritons' 11 tournaments.
"Davis had a good year and this is just the beginning for him," said UC San Diego head coach
Fred Hanover. "With his talent, work ethic, and comittment, he has all the tools to do some spectacular things in the future.
McDowell earned a pair of top-five finishes. His best outing came during the UC San Diego Invitational at La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif., where he finished second in the 89-player field, just a single stroke behind the individual medalist. His 67 in the second round tied for the lowest round by any Triton over the season. In addition, McDowell placed fourth in the 79-player field at the Bill Cullum Invitational at The Oaks Club in Valencia, Calif. He had a third top-15 finish, tying for 11th of 63 at the Orange County Collegiate Classic at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club in Coto de Caza, Calif.
McDowell finished his season with a team-best 72.1 stroke average over 27 total rounds. He shot par or better in nine rounds, which tied for the team lead, and shot under 70 three times (67, 68, 69).
Hailing from San Rafael, Calif., and majoring in management science, McDowell is UC San Diego's first golfer in program history to earn a Big West postseason award.
