UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - The UC San Diego golf team bagged yet another top five finish Tuesday, placing third of 14 teams at the Redhawk Invitational.
Seattle University hosted the tournament at Chambers Bay on Puget Sound.
UC San Diego finished seven under par. The Tritons went four under and two over in Monday's opening pair of rounds and finished with a five under outing today.
The Tritons were in first place coming into the final round. However, strong play by Abilene Christian and Idaho Tuesday pushed UC San Diego into third. Abilene Christian shot 17 under to finish at 13 under overall, while Idaho was 10 under today and nine under for the tournament.
Three Tritons placed in the top 15 including
Davis McDowell (11th, -3),
Francis Catalano (13th, -2), and
Hanjie Yu (13th, -2).
The individual medalist was David Liechty out of Utah Tech, who was 16 under par, eight strokes better than second place Grant Feldman of Creighton.
A total of 19 players shot under par Tuesday.
This season, UC San Diego has placed in the top five in eight of nine tournaments. Today's result was the fourth time the Tritons have finished third.
It was the team's best finish in five appearances at the event.
