LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego head coach
Eric Newman has announced the 2022 baseball schedule. The nonconference slate features four home series and one road series as well as 10 midweek games, beginning the season Feb. 18 against Seattle. The Tritons will also host five conference opponents and conclude the season May 28 at CSUN.
Â
"The Tritons have a great mix of high level opponents, representing conferences all over the country," said Newman. "Our goal was to engage all baseball fans in San Diego, and encourage them to come out to Triton Ballpark to watch great college baseball, and with this schedule I think we have done that."
Â
The Tritons' schedule features 55 games, including 32 contests hosted in Triton Ballpark. UC San Diego will open the season Feb. 18 with a four-game series against Seattle, hosted in La Jolla. The Tritons will play 17 of their first 22 games in the friendly confines of Triton Ballpark.Â
Â
In addition to Seattle, UC San Diego will face off with Washington, Santa Clara and UConn in nonconference series early in the season.
Â
UC San Diego will also play 10 midweek contests throughout the season against nonconference opponents. The Tritons' schedule includes home-and-home series against USC, USD, San Diego State and a home contest against Grand Canyon, as well as a two-game series at Oregon.
Â
In conference play, the Tritons will take on Cal Poly in their Big West home opener March 25-27. UC San Diego will also play host to UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Cal State Fullerton and Hawai'i in Triton Ballpark. The series against the Rainbow Warriors (May 20-22) will mark UC San Diego's last home games of the season and include senior day celebrations.Â
Â
UC San Diego will travel to face Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara, CSU Bakersfield, UC Davis and CSUN. The series against CSUN will conclude the season for the Tritons, May 26-28.
Â
The Tritons return the majority of their roster that finished 24-28 overall and 21-19 in Big West play in their first season of Division I competition in 2021. UC San Diego will also add a host of new talent, joining the veteran roster for the 2022 season.Â
