OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
The offensive went off for 54 runs in the series against San Marcos. It was the most runs recorded in a series this season and most runs in a series since 2018 when the Tritons tallied 69 against Cal State San Bernardino.
PATIENCE AT THE PLATE
The Tritons rank second in the nation in base on balls with 146 and are just three off from first.
Blake Baumgartner leads the Tritons with 21, followed by
Michael Fuhrman with 18.
HOME RUN HITTING DUO
UC San Diego has two players who have hit at least 20 career home runs.
Shay Whitcomb has 21 while Baumgartner reached 20 career home runs last weekend against Cal State Marcos.
PITCHING PROWESS
The Triton's pitching staff ranks ninth in the country with an ERA of 2.86.
Brandon Weed and
Cameron Leonard have been steady on the mound and have ERAs of 2.17 and 2.30 respectively.
Michael Mitchell and
Luke Mattson have been outstanding in relief and have ERAs of .75 and .78 respectively. Matson leads the team with. 35 strikeouts.
MR. 500 x3
Three different players his for over .500 against Cal State San Marcos.
Anthony Lucchetti (.583),
Michael Fuhrman (.545) and
Shay Whitcomb (.533) combined for 21 hits.
STEALING BASES
The Tritons have had early success looking for extra bases. So far, the Tritons have 28 stolen bases, one more than all of 2019 and one off of 2018's total.
Brandon Stewart has a team high 14.
BIG WEST BOUND
UC San Diego is in its 20th and final year playing as an NCAA Division II team. In July of 2020, the entire athletics program will begin a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of the
Big West Conference for the 2024-25 academic year. At that time, all sports will be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play.
