Tritons Earn No. 1 Seed in 2019 NCAA West Regional

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The University of California San Diego women's basketball team will host the 2019 NCAA West Regional Tournament as the No. 1 seed, the NCAA announced Sunday evening.

The Tritons welcome eight teams to RIMAC Arena for a total of seven contests over a three-day stretch, looking to earn a berth to the Elite 8 March 26 in Columbus, Ohio.

UC San Diego (29-0) takes on No. 8 seed Dominican in a quarterfinal matchup on Friday, March 15, beginning at 5 p.m. PT. With a win on Friday, the Tritons would advance to Saturday's West Region semifinal to face the winner between No. 4 Azusa Pacific and No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets will be available at RIMAC Arena beginning at 11 a.m. Friday and are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for youth/seniors.  A limited number of courtside seats will be available for $20.  Parking is available in Hopkins Garage, adjacent to RIMAC Arena.  A daily charge is required on Friday and Monday.  Parking is free on Saturdays throughout the UC San Diego campus.

The Tritons are coming off a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament championship after defeating Cal Poly Pomona in the final, 72-60. Junior forward Mikayla Williams was named CCAA Tournament MVP after recording 25 points with 14 rebounds in the deciding game, while senior guard Kayla Sato joined her on the CCAA All-Tournament Team.

UC San Diego advanced to the West Region semifinals last season hosted by Azusa Pacific, as the Tritons knocked off Seattle Pacific in the quarterfinals before falling short to eventual west region champion Montana State Billings.

Winners of four-straight CCAA regular-season titles, UC San Diego has won 17-consecutive games played at RIMAC Arena and 22 of its last 23 at home.
