FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 3 TCU had a triple-double from point guard Olivia Miles and the host Horned Frogs topped 14-seed UC San Diego, 86-40, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday morning at Schollmaier Arena. The Horned Frogs (30-5) move on to the second round, where they will play Sunday against the winner of Washington vs. South Dakota State.
Erin Condron led the Tritons with 12 points, the junior's 29th game of the season scoring in double figures. Condron and
Sabrina Ma each had a team-high six rebounds. UC San Diego saw its six-game win streak snapped. The Tritons end their season with a 24-9 record, setting a new Division I program record for wins in a season.
Miles wrapped up a productive day with 12 points, 16 rebounds, and 14 assists. Miles was one of five Horned Frogs in double figures; Taylor Bigby scored a game-high 27. Taking advantage of a major size differential, TCU outrebounded the Tritons, 56-28.
HOW IT HAPPENED
TCU came out white hot, hitting three quick three-point attempts and getting a driving layup from Clara Silva to go up 11-2 and force a UC San Diego timeout 2:06 into the game. A midrange jumper from Condron got the Tritons on the board. At 6:20,
Rosa Smith came away with a steal and her fastbreak layup broke the scoring drought. Condron and Smith each scored four in the first quarter, with
Lev Feiman burying a three-pointer. Feiman added a bucket in the final 20 seconds, and the Horned Frogs led 24-12 after the first. TCU's Marta Suarez led all scorers with nine and Miles added seven rebounds and four assists.
The Horned Frogs scored the first eight points of the second quarter to build a 32-12 advantage. But it was UC San Diego that closed the half on a strong note. The Tritons wrapped up the second half on a 10-0 run, while holding the Horned Frogs without a point over the final 3:55 of the period. TCU led 48-25 at the half.
Condron led UC San Diego with 10 points and Feiman added six. Miles posted a first half double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. TCU's Bigby scored 17.
TCU outscored the Tritons, 16-8, in the third quarter, Early in the fourth, the Tritons played the hosts evenly, limiting TCU to just one make in seven tries over a four-minute stretch, but TCU maintained its comfortable advantage and closed out the home win.

- The Tritons made their second consecutive NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament appearance, in the program's second year eligible to compete.
- TCU has won 43 consecutive games at Schollmaier Arena, the longest active stream in the NCAA. The Horned Frogs are 12-0 all-time in postseason action in this building.
