Duo Recognized with Academic All-District Honors

LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's basketball had two Tritons named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as announced Tuesday by the organization. Sabrina Ma and Rosa Smith were recognized for their achievements in the classroom and on the court.
 
It is the first Academic All-District honor for both Ma and Smith. The Tritons have now had nine scholar-athletes recognized with Academic All-District distinction in the Division I era. UC San Diego has had 14 Academic All-District awardees and three Academic All-Americans all-time.
 
SABRINA MA | SR | INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
Ma (San Francisco, Calif.) will graduate this spring after majoring in international business with a 3.57 grade point average at Muir College. Ma is a two-time All-Academic Team honoree, earning the distinction last year with the Big West and in 2022-23 with the Mountain West—with 2025-26 honors yet to be announced. She also earned a spot on the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll, Highest Honors in 2024-25.
 
A back-to-back All-Big West Honorable Mention, Ma helped to lead the Tritons to their second consecutive Big West Championship and a share of their first Big West regular season title. Ma was one of three players to start all 33 games for the Tritons, averaging 11.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 33.5 minutes per game. She led the Tritons with 2.2 threes per game to rank fourth in the Big West and finished with a team-best 86.3 free throw percentage. 
 
ROSA SMITH | R-JR. | PUBLIC HEALTH
A redshirt junior, Smith (Kirkland, Wash.) will graduate this spring with a degree in public health with a concentration in medicine science, earning a 3.93 grade point average at Seventh College. Smith is a two-time Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll, Highest Honors scholar-athlete and earned a spot on the Big West All-Academic Team last season—with 2025-26 honorees yet to be named.
 
Smith earned All-Big West Honorable Mention in 2025-26, after helping to lead the Tritons to their second consecutive Big West Championship and a share of their first Big West regular season title. Smith appeared in 32 games, making 29 starts for UC San Diego. She averaged 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steal in 30.1 minutes per game. Smith ranked eighth in the Big West in three pointers per game (1.8), second on the team in assists and finished with a 40.5 field goal percentage. 
 
The 2025-26 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions—NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
To be eligible, student-athletes must hold a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must have participated in 90 percent of the team's contests or started 66 percent of games. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.

The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 84 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 38 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world's preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 91 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.
