INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. —The University of California San Diego men's tennis team officially made the NCAA Championships for the third-consecutive season on Tuesday evening, and will face No. 1-seed Azusa Pacific in the Round of 48 for the second-straight year.
UC San Diego, the No. 4-seed in the West Region, plays at Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, May 1, beginning at 3 p.m. PT. The Tritons have lost two tough matches to the Cougars this season, most recently a 6-3 home defeat on April 13.
After beginning the dual season with road losses at Azusa Pacific on Feb. 9 and at No. 2-seeded Hawaii-Hilo on Feb. 16, UC San Diego won eight-straight dual matches from Feb. 18 to March 14. In the middle of that run was an 8-1 victory over No. 3-seed Point Loma on Feb. 26.
The Tritons are led by senior Eric Tseng, who has gone 10-6 this dual season, all in the No. 1 singles slot, and has amassed three victories over ranked opponents. Fellow senior Justin Zhang has compiled a 9-8 record this dual season with each of his victories coming in No. 2 singles.
In addition, sophomore Marc Isaia is 10-6 in dual-match play in No. 3 singles, while freshman Eskil Jarlskog is 8-4 this season in No. 4 singles action.
In doubles play, the Tritons' No. 1 team Isaia and sophomore Sreeganesh Manoharan has put together a 9-6 record this season, while the No. 2 duo of Tseng and Zhang is 14-4. UC San Diego's No. 3 unit of Jarlskog and freshman Neil Tengbumroong is 7-6 this season.
