CLAREMONT, Calif. —The University of California San Diego men's tennis team closed its regular season with a road loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon.
The dual match began with doubles play, as the Tritons No. 1 team of seniors Eric Tseng and Justin Zhang dropped its match to Julian Gordy and Nikolai Parodi, 8-2, before UC San Diego's No. 3 unit of sophomore Marc Isaia and junior Richard Han defeated Robert Liu and Jake Williams, 8-5.
Doubles play ended with the Tritons No. 2 duo of freshmen Neil Tengbumroong and Eskil Jarlskog falling short against Oscar Burney and Jack Katzman, 8-6.
CMS (26-3), which has won 11-consecutive dual matches, took four of six singles matches to seal the dual-match victory.
Zhang won his No. 2 singles matchup against Katzman, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 10-6, while Jarlskog won his No. 4 singles contest in three sets over Gordy, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (5).
In No. 1 singles, Tseng came up short against Parodi, 6-3, 7-6 (8), and Isaia lost a three-set battle to Burney, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Tengbumroong dropped his No. 5 singles match to Avinash Vemuri, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, while Han lost a No. 6 singles contest to Liu, 6-4, 6-2.
UC San Diego (9-8) now awaits its postseason fate, which will be announced on Tuesday, April 24, with a selection show beginning at 5 p.m. PT.
