LA JOLLA, Calif. — The No. 18 University of California San Diego men's tennis team continued its momentum on Thursday, defeating Villanova, 6-1, at Northview Tennis Courts.
The Tritons have now won three-consecutive dual matches.
Thursday's match began with UC San Diego (3-2) winning two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. After the Tritons' No. 1 team of freshmen Eskil Jarlskog and Sreeganesh Manoharan dropped its match to Will Elmore and Stefan Suarez, 6-2, UCSD's No. 2 duo of seniors Eric Tseng and Justin Zhang defeated Thomas Dodson and Tyler Roth, 7-6 (4).
Tied at one apiece, UC San Diego's No. 3 unit of sophomores Marc Isaia and Neil Tengbumroong won the deciding match over Mike Czlonka and Tommy Mulflur, 6-3, to clinch the point.
Singles play began with junior Richard Han falling short against Mulflur in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, before No. 21-ranked Tseng topped Stefan Suarez, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 1 singles.
Fellow senior and 39th-ranked Zhang added a No. 2 singles victory over Tyler Roth, 6-4, 6-3, before Tengbumroong clinched the dual-match with his win against Alastair Hurry, 7-5, 6-2, in the No. 6 singles slot.
Jarlskog won a three-set decision over Dodson, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, in No. 4 singles, while Isaia topped Dylan Flanagan in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, to conclude the dual match.
The Tritons are also competing in the Pacific Coast Doubles tournament this weekend, and resume dual-match play on Sunday against Holy Names, beginning at noon.
