LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 17th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 33 Cal State L.A. by an 8-1 score at Northview Courts.
UCSD (6-4) got out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles contests and went on to win five of the six singles match-ups.
The doubles pair of Britta Mosser and Kyra Scott, ranked 16th in the nation, earned an 8-6 victory over Nozomi Matsuoka and Iris Raileanu in the top slot. At No. 2, Ashley Chao and Shannon Theisen blanked Isabella Lopez and Elizaveta Sokolova, 8-0. Madison Hale and Alexandra Weil completed the sweep, downing Pyper Brown and Kayleigh Hall, 8-5, at No. 3.
At the top singles rung, Scott, who is ranked 28th nationally in singles, dispatched Matsuoka, 7-6 and 6-1. She improved her season record to 6-4 with the victory.
Also winning in straight sets for UCSD were Jasmine Hosseini (No. 2), Mosser (No. 3), Chao (No. 5) and Hale (No. 6).
Raileanu procured CSULA's lone win at No. 4 singles.
The Golden Eagles fell to 4-4.
UC San Diego hosts ninth-ranked Hawaii Pacific on Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
