Big Day for Susdorf Leads UCSD to 11-4 Win at Cal State Stanislaus

TURLOCK, Calif. - Danny Susdorf had four hits, scored a run and drove in three more to help lead the UC San Diego baseball team to an 11-4 league victory against Cal State Stanislaus Saturday at Warrior Field.

UCSD never trailed in the game. It was tight early, tied 2-2 after two innings of play, but the Tritons led 4-2 after five and scored seven more times over the eighth and ninth innings. A total of 29 hits were put in the book, 17 of those going to the visitors.

UC San Diego, which has won three straight and six of its last seven games, upped its overall record to 16-14 and is now 14-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CSUS fell to 15-13 on the season and 12-10 in league play.

Susdorf went 4-for-6 at the plate, pounding out two singles, a double and a triple. He led off the game with the three-bagger and scored the day's first run in the opening inning.

Spencer Frazier, Scott Liske, Gregg Ringold and Garrett Tuck all had multiple hits for the Tritons. Frazier and Liske each scored a run and recorded two RBI each. Ringold, Ryan O'Malley and Richard Seigel each crossed the plate twice.

UCSD starting pitcher Jeff Rauh went six full innings to pick up the win, improving to 2-3 on the season. He allowed two runs on five hits, struck out two and walked two. For the second consecutive day, Tony York successfully closed a game, earning his sixth save of the year. With 14 appearances and 20 innings pitched, York has yet to surrender a run.

"Jeff (Rauh) really competed hard and our offense kept the pressure on all day, which gave us the chance to break out late in the game," said UCSD head coach Eric Newman.

Four different Warriors had two hits apiece, including DJ Arellano, who tripled to lead off the third inning. Starter Rafael Vasquez (3-2) took the loss, giving up four runs on nine hits in four innings.

The eventual game-winning run came in the eighth inning. With a 4-3 lead, O'Malley singled with two outs and was immediately pushed home when Frazier tripled to center. In the next at-bat, Susdorf singled to plate Frazier.

Only one of the Tritons' five runs in the ninth inning was earned. It all started when Ringold led off and reached on an error by the Warrior infield. The next three batters all reached base safely on two walks and a single. In UCSD's final at-bat of the afternoon, Susdorf singled to drive in O'Malley and Seigel.

Eight doubles were hit in the game. Stanislaus left 10 runners on base and UCSD stranded eight.

The CCAA series will conclude Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at noon. Two games were scheduled for Saturday, but rain forced the move of the second contest to Sunday. The games will be covered by live stats.
