SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -The No. 1 ranked UC San Diego baseball team began a new winning streak on Friday, pounding out 20 hits in a 14-7 win over Cal State San Bernardino at Fiscalini Field.
Brandon Gregorich and
Blake Tagmyer hit two homeruns each, while
Evan Kehoe and
Robert Sedin also homered. Gregorich finished with two homeruns, a triple, single and five RBI. Kehoe finished the day with five hits.
Kirby St. John pitched a solid 6.2 innings, allowing three runs and improved to 7-1 on the year. With the win, UCSD improves to 29-4, 19-3 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while CSUSB drops to 17-11, 16-10 CCAA.
The Tritons got two-run homeruns from Tagmyer, Gregorich and Kehoe and led 6-3 through six innings.
UCSD added three more runs on four hits in the seventh inning before adding four more runs in the eighth on a pair of two-run homeruns by Tagmyer and Gregorich, each hitting their second homeruns of the game.
Sedin added a solo homerun in the ninth inning, UCSD's sixth homerun of the game.
Gregorich came to bat in the eighth inning, a double short of the cycle. Instead of getting that double, Gregorich homered to finish the day 4-for-5 with four runs scored, five RBI, two homeruns and a triple.
Tagmyer finished with a 2-for-4 game with two homeruns and four RBI. Kehoe went 5-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI. Kellen Lee and Robert Sedin also had multiple hit games.
St. John earned his seventh win of the year, tying Tim Shibuya for the team lead this season. The win was St. John's 22nd of his career, good for sixth-place all-time in school history.
Also seeing action on the mound for the Tritons included Richard Kilbury, Sean Greer and Jeff Rauh.
The loss went to CSUSB's Brandon Cunniff who gave up nine runs on 12 hits in 6.1 innings to fall to 4-2 on the year. The Tritons also got runs off of relief pitchers Lucas Sanford and Garrett Nelsen.
Other Triton notes in the game included Sedin stealing his seventh base of the season and Aaron Bauman was hit by a pitch twice, raising his team-leading total to 17 in his 33 games.
UCSD and CSUSB return to the field on Saturday with a doubleheader at Triton Ballpark. First pitch of the first game is set for 12:00 p.m. on the La Jolla campus.
