Lee Hits For The Cycle In 11 Inning Loss; Rossman's Complete Game Helps No. 3 Tritons Top No. 23 Wildcats

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 3rd-ranked UC San Diego baseball team lost the previously suspended game against No. 23 Chico State by a 9-6 score in 11 innings. UCSD would bounce back with its first win of the four game series in Saturday's scheduled game, topping the Wildcats by a 4-3 score. In the 11 inning loss, the Wildcats scored three times in the top of the 11th to claim the victory. CSUC was able to over come UCSD's Kellen Lee who hit for the cycle. In the 4-3 win, Matt Rossman give up three runs early but shutdown the Wildcats the rest of the way in his complete game victory. UCSD is now 10-3, 1-2 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while Chico State is 6-1, 6-1 CCAA.

Lee's cycle was a natural cycle in reverse order. The junior catcher homered in the first, tripled in the third, doubled in the fifth and singled up the middle in the ninth. For the game, Lee went 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored.

The Tritons ended up stranding 16 runners on base, compared to 10 by Chico State.

Bryn Calhoun earned the win while Casey Edelbrock saved his second game of the season.

Sean Greer took the loss as Daniel Simmons, Eric Abraham and Elias Tuma also pitched in the game.

In the Tritons' 4-3 win, the game did not look good early as the Wildcats opened the game with back-to-back doubles off Rossman. Chico State scored two in the first and one in the second to lead 3-1. The Tritons added a run in the fourth on Brandon Gregorich's homerun.

UCSD took the lead in the fifth as Robert Sedin doubled and Vance Albitz singled. Evan Kehoe hit the go ahead sac fly RBI to give UCSD the 4-3 advantage.

Meanwhile, after giving up six hits in the first two innings, Rossman gave up only four more hits in the final seven frames. Rossman retired the final seven batters of the game en route to his complete game victory. Rossman, who improved to 2-0, struck out five and walked two in his nine innings of work.

UCSD will go for the series split on Sunday when it takes on Chico State in the series finale. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. at Triton Ballpark.
