No. 4 Tritons Top Point Loma Nazarene; Shibuya and Kehoe Power Win

LA JOLLA, Calif.  ?The 4th-ranked UC San Diego baseball team shut down the Point Loma Nazarene offense with a 4-1 win on Wednesday afternoon at Triton Baseball Field.  Tim Shibuya (1-0) pitched 6.2 scoreless innings while Tim Mort, Evan Kehoe, Garrett Imeson and Robert Sedin had RBI.  Kehoe homered for the Tritons while Guido Knudson earned his second save of the season.  With the win, UCSD improves to 2-0 while the Sea Lions drop to 3-1.  UCSD is back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Academy of Art beginning at 11:00 a.m. on the La Jolla campus.

Kehoe had his second consecutive multi-hit game and his homerun came in the sixth inning to left centerfield.  Shibuya pitched out of a no outs bases-loaded jam in the fourth to keep the Tritons in the lead.

 

In the UCSD third with one out, Chris Fung reached on an error and advanced to second.  Robert Sedin followed with a bunt single down the third base line and put runners on the corners.  Garrett Imeson followed with a squeeze bunt as Fung scored and the Tritons grabbed a 1-0 lead.

 

In the PLNU fourth, the Sea Lions loaded the bases with no outs.  Shibuya went on to strike out the next two batters.  The third batter of the inning grounded out to third and Shibuya and the Tritons escaped a bases loaded no outs jam and kept the 1-0 lead.

 

Matt Cantele led off the UCSD fourth with a double to right field.  After Kehoe grounded out to the right side and advanced Cantele to third, Tim Mort hit a sac fly to center for an RBI and UCSD led 2-0.

 

With two outs in the sixth, Evan Kehoe homered to center field and the Tritons led 3-0.

 

PLNU put two runners on in the seventh with two outs and relief pitcher Sean Greer picked the runner off second base and UCSD ended the threat with the 3-0 lead.

 

With two outs in the seventh, Robert Sedin doubled off the left center wall for an RBI and the Tritons led 4-0.

 

PLNU got on the board in the eighth as Tim Winslow led off with a homerun to left and UCSD's lead was 4-1. 

 

Guido Knudson pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save, his second in as many games this year.
