SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. ? The 7th-ranked UC San Diego baseball team swept a doubleheader against San Francisco State on Saturday afternoon at Maloney Field. UCSD had 18 hits in a 9-1 game one win. Guido Knudson (5-4) earned the win, pitching eight innings while allowing just six hits and one run. In game two, the Tritons won 5-3 as Matt Rossman (9-3) earned the win. Keith Noe, who entered the week with the fourth-best save total in the nation, earned his 13th save of the year. The Tritons improve to 39-11, 23-8 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Gators drop to 7-42-1, 1-30 CCAA. UCSD's 39 wins is a school record.
In the first game, the Tritons took a 3-0 lead after the first three innings. The Gators scored on a RBI single by Matt Edgecombe in the fourth. UC San Diego scored three more runs in the fifth, one more in the sixth, one in the seventh and one in the ninth to make the final 9-1 Tritons.
UC San Diego had 18 hits of which four came off the bat of Vance Albitz. Guido Knudson (5-4) picked up the win for UC San Diego while Jeff Henning (0-4) took the loss. Edgecombe and Connor Buestad each had two hits for the Gators.
In game two, SF State took a 2-0 lead on RBIs by Matt Kavanaugh and Jeff McCall. UC San Diego tied the game with a two-run third and took the lead with a three-run third keyed by Garrett Imeson's two-run home run to left field to take a 5-2 lead. SF State's scored the final run in the third on a home run by Edgecombe.
Beau Moorehead (1-11) took the loss for SF State while five different Gators had hits. Matt Rossman (9-3) picked up the win for UC San Diego and Keith Noe recorded his 13th save.
UCSD is back in action on Sunday for the series final. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. in San Francisco.
