MONTGOMERY, Ala. ? The UC San Diego women's tennis team headed east for their spring break to play in the Blue/Gray Jamboree, formerly the Small College Blue/Gray tournament. In preparation for the tournament they played the host team and nationally ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Auburn University ? Montgomery Senators. The Tritons fell 9-0 dropping their record to 7-6 while the Senators improved to 13-0.
AUM jumped out to an early lead 3-0 after the doubles matches and UC San Diego could not catch the NAIA No. 1. Justine Ang Fonte and Dalya Perelman battled Nadia Lysak and Natalie Sienkob in the No. 3 match eventually losing 8-4 which would be the closest the Tritons came to a victory.
In singles action, the Senators continued their strong play sweeping the six matches. Molly Sullens faced Lysak in the No. 6 position putting forth a strong effort in a losing cause. Lysak won 7-5, 6-1.
The Blue/Gray Jamboree kicks off tomorrow for the Tritons as they will battle the Division II team from Columbus State University who enter the tournament ranked No. 12 in the nation. The match begins at 6:00 A.M. Pacific Time.
