LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team lost the opening game of a four-game set to Cal State Stanislaus by a 7-1 score on Friday afternoon at Triton Baseball Field. Marquis Fleming pitched a complete-game for the Warriors, as the Tritons did not score until the ninth inning. The loss drops UCSD to 30-18, 19-10 CCAA, while the Warriors improve to 21-25, 13-16 CCAA. UCSD was led by Garrett Imeson with two doubles, Matt Cantele had two hits and John Roth had the Tritons' RBI. UCSD and CSUS will return to the field on Saturday for a doubleheader. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 12:00 p.m.
In the CSUS second, Tom Long hit an RBI double, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead. CSUS would score two more runs in the inning to lead 3-0.
In the UCSD second, Garrett Imeson led off with a double to center and Bryan Silverman singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. The next three Tritons would be retired and CSUS remained ahead 3-0 through two.
In the CSUS seventh, A.J. Valentine singled with two outs, driving in a run for the 4-0 lead. CSUS added another run on a wild pitch to take a 5-0 lead.
CSUS tacked on two more in the eighth to lead 7-0.
UCSD got on the board in the ninth as John Roth doubled, driving in Imeson who doubled to lead off.
