LOS ANGELES, Calif. ? The 23rd-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team put the finishing touches on its fourth-straight undefeated league season with a 9-0 thrashing of Cal State L.A. on Saturday afternoon. With the victory the Tritons improve to 13-8 overall and 10-0 in CCAA action while dropping the Golden Eagles to 13-4 overall and 7-3 in league play. The win also pushes UCSD's unbeaten streak in conference matches up to 40-straight.
The Tritons have won the last four CCAA titles without losing a single match. The last time that head coach Liz LaPlante's squad lost a league contest was on April 19, 2003. UCSD also remains perfect against the Golden Eagles, improving to 17-0 all-time against the CSULA in women's tennis.
After sweeping all three doubles matches, the Tritons took five of the six singles matches in straight-sets. The lone three-set victory came at the No. 4 spot on the ladder where Pooja Desai posted a 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 victory over Rona Miller.
With the regular season ending for UCSD with its win on Saturday at Cal State L.A., all that remains now is the NCAA Tournament. The D-II Women's Tennis bracket will be announced on Wednesday, April 25th at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.
UCSD, the No. 3-ranked team in the West Region, figures to host a first round matchup before being shipped off to Hawaii for a second round contest. The two remaining teams from the West Region, after the first two rounds, will advance to the D-II National Championships which will be held on May 9-12 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
