FULLERTON, Calif. ? The 23rd-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Division I Cal State Fullerton on Thursday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Courts on the CSUF campus. With the loss the Tritons fall to 12-8 on the season while the Titans improve to 6-15.
Cal State Fullerton took an early 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point by winning all three matches.
In singles play, UCSD was able to win one of five matches as Allison Legakis posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot on the ladder over Shaghig Injejikian. CSUF won four of the other five matches in straight sets as freshman Yekaterina Milvidskaia took Jerusha Cruz to a third set super-tiebreaker before falling by a 10-6 score.
Head coach Liz LaPlante guides her team back into action on Saturday, playing their final regular season match of the season. The Tritons will travel for a 2 p.m. match at Cal State L.A.
UCSD, who has already locked up its fourth-straight CCAA title, puts its 39-match conference win streak on the line against the Golden Eagles. CSULA will finish the 2007 league slate in second place behind the Tritons.
