LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 14th-ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team picked up its fourth win over a Division I opponent on Thursday, this time defeating Boston University by a 8-1 score at the Northview Tennis Courts on the UCSD campus. With the victory the Tritons improve to 8-2 on the season and 4-1 against D-I foes while dropping the Terriers to 6-6 on the year.
The Tritons held a 3-0 lead after doubles play, posting wins o 8-5, 8-1 and 8-1 in the three matches.
UCSD would go on to win five of the six singles matches, all of which were determined in straight sets. Among the victories was a 6-0, 6-0 win for Eric Rubens at the No. 2 spot on the ladder while Steven Oechel posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Head coach Eric Steidlmayer's squad returns to the court on Friday, hosting yet another Division I opponent. The Tritons will face off with Iowa at 2 p.m. on Friday before concluding their final week before Final Exams with a match against Sonoma State on Sunday morning.
