UCSD Splits with No. 7 Cal State L.A.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team split its doubleheader against No. 7 Cal State L.A. on Thursday night at Reeder Field.  In game one, UCSD took a 7-2 lead and held on 7-6.  Jose Navarro (4-1) went seven innings giving up three runs for the win.  Garrett Imeson, John Roth and Brian Trump had multi-hit games.  UCSD dropped game two 5-4 in extra innings.  The Tritons led 2-0 going into the final frame before Cal State L.A. tied it with two runs in the bottom half.  In the first extra frame, UCSD scored twice, only to have the Golden Eagles score three times in the bottom half to win the game. 

 

In game one, Imeson went 3-for-5 with two RBI, Trump went 2-for-5 with two RBI and Roth had a 2-for-5 night.  Damian Fante stole three bases, David Gomez stole two and Roth also swiped a base.

 

In game two, Byron Grubman pitched seven strong innings giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.  Grubman has now struck out 16 batters in his last two starts (13.0 innings).  David Morehead homered in the game, while Fante and Trump had extra base hits.

 

UCSD and Cal State L.A. continue their four-game series with two games at Triton Baseball Field.  The games have been pushed back one day to Sunday, March 12 on the UCSD campus.  Expected heavy rains have forced the change.  First pitch of the first game is slated for 11:00 a.m.
