Tritons Fall to Sea Lions

POINT LOMA, Calif. - The UC San Diego baseball team suffered a 14-4 defeat to Point Loma Nazarene in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Carroll B. Land on the PLNU campus.  The loss drops UCSD to 8-6 while the Sea Lions improve to 16-5.  UCSD was led by David Morehead and Jonathan Erickson who hit back-to-back homeruns in the sixth inning.  The Tritons fell behind early, giving up 10 runs in innings two through five.  Jared Eskew earned the win for the Sea Lions.  UCSD resumes conference play against Sonoma State on Friday, March 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Triton Baseball Field.  UCSD was picked to finish third in the CCAA preseason poll, while SSU was picked to finish second.

 

The Tritons got on the board first as Damian Fante was hit-by-pitch with two outs and stole second base.  Chris Hom then doubled down the rightfield line, scoring Fante for the 1-0 lead.

 

PLNU had a big second inning as the first two Sea Lions reached, setting up a three-run homerun by Kevin Campbell.  PLNU would add another run before the end of the frame to lead 4-1 after two innings.

 

Trailing 10-1, UCSD's Jonathan Erickson and David Morehead hit back-to-back homeruns to make the score 10-3.

 

UCSD picked up another run in the seventh on an RBI triple by David Gomez, scoring Chris Carl. 

 

PLNU added four more runs in the seventh for the final scoring at 14-4.
