Tritons Lose on Walk-Off Homerun

CARSON, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team lost on a two-out bottom of the ninth walk-off homerun to Cal State Dominguez Hills 8-7 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.  The Tritons scored four times in the first inning, powered by a three-run homerun by Scott Clement and a solo shot by Damian Fante.  Clement finished the day with four RBI.  Matt Lawson went 4-for-5 and David Morehead had a multi-hit game.  UCSD falls to 3-2 while CSUDH improves to 2-5. 

 

UCSD went ahead 4-0 in the first with Clement hitting a three-run homerun with two outs.  Damian Fante was the next batter and hit a solo homerun for the early lead.

 

CSUDH scored three times in the bottom of the sixth and led 7-5 through seven.

 

In the eighth inning, UCSD began to chip away as Matt Lawson doubled with one out and Clement singled, scoring Lawson and pulling UCSD within 7-6.

 

With one out in the top of the ninth, the Tritons drew two walks and Tim Mort had an infield single, loading the bases.  Gomez grounded out and drove in one RBI as the Trtions tied the game 7-7.

 

All was going smoothly in the bottom of the ninth as the first two Toros were retired.  CSUDH's K.Stanley then sent a pitch over the centerfield wall to win the game for CSUDH.

 

UCSD is back in action on Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader against Cal Poly Pomona.  First pitch of the first game is set for 11:00 a.m. in Pomona, Calif.
