ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Sonoma State forward Andrew Bailey has been named the Daktronics Far West Region Men's Soccer Player of the Year. Bailey was selected in voting by a panel of Sports Information Directors from the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and Pacific West Conference. His honor headlined the announcement of the Daktronics First and Second Team All-Far West Region squads.
Bailey received six first place votes and was named on 13 of the 17 ballots cast, edging David Hague of Grand Canyon for the award. A sophomore from Davis, Bailey led the Seawolves with 13 goals and was named the CCAA Player of the Year.
UC San Diego senior Mark Moreira earned Second Team honors after leading the Tritons in scoring on the season with his seven goals and three assists. Moreira also earned First Team All-CCAA honors and was among the league leaders in goals scored, ranking in a tie for seventh place with his seven goals.
Joining Bailey as forwards on the All-Far West Region first team were Jason Cascio of region champion Seattle University and Morten Marthinsen of Cal State L.A..
Bailey's Sonoma State teammate, Brett Cook, led a quartet of defenders on the first team. Cook was joined by Matt Kemper of Seattle Pacific, Mike Gardner of Chico State, and LJ Reinhardt of Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Kyle Polak of Cal State Dominguez Hills was the overwhelming choice as first team goalkeeper as he earned 12 of 17 first place votes.
Midfielders named to the first team included David Hague of Grand Canyon, Jesse Graham of Cal State Dominguez Hills, and John Fishbaugher of Seattle University.
Far West champion Seattle University and Seattle Pacific led the way with five total selections each. Cal State Dominguez Hills had the most first team honorees with three.
Players selected to the first team will be listed on the Daktronics All-American ballot. The All-American team will be announced on November 27th.
