Wellerstein, Dunbar Named All-Big West

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Big West announced its 2025 men's soccer all-conference teams on Tuesday, as voted on by the league's head coaches. UC San Diego's Evan Wellerstein was honored on the All-Big West Second Team and Adam Dunbar was named to the All-Freshman Team.

The Tritons now have 13 all-conference honors in five years of being in The Big West. Wellerstein is the sixth to be named to the Second Team, while Dunbar is the fifth Triton on the All-Freshman Team.

As a team, the Tritons were 2-8-7 overall and 2-2-5 in Big West play (11 points), finishing sixth in the conference table. Their season continues tomorrow with the first round of The Big West Championship at Cal Poly. The Tritons are in the championship for the first time.

Wellerstein is a redshirt junior from Maui, Hawai'i, who is majoring in real estate and development at Sixth College. The team captain played every minute this season until sustaining an injury in the closing minutes of the Tritons' match on Oct. 22. He was previously named to the All-Freshman Team in 2023.

The centerback helped the team secure two shutouts and a 1.6 goals against average, the Tritons' best rate in the last three seasons. Wellerstein logged two goals and one assist, with the Tritons getting a result in all three of the matches in which he had a point.

Dunbar is a true freshman from Los Angeles who is also majoring in real estate and development at Sixth College. He appeared in 11 matches, making five starts. Dunbar played 555 minutes, good for 50.5 minutes a game.

The midfielder led the team in goals with three. Two of his goals helped the Tritons record draws against Big West opponents. Dunbar also picked up one assist, which came on the game-winning goal as the Tritons beat Cal State Fullerton last Saturday.
