The 15th-ranked UC San Diego men's soccer team dropped its first match of the 2005 season on Tuesday, falling by a 1-0 score in overtime to Cal State L.A. The loss snaps the Tritons three-match win streak to start the year while the goal allowed in the game was the first one scored by a UCSD opponent this season. The Tritons fall to 3-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in California Colleigate Athletic Association play while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league action.

Mark Van Gorkom netted his first goal of the season off a crossing pass from Robert Ramirez in the seventh minute of the first overtime to give the Golden Eagles the victory. The shot was Van Gorkom's second of the match.
UCSD's offense was led by Matt Davey (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel HS) who took four shots on the day while six other Tritons took one shot apiece.
Senior netminder Edward Ruhland (Hilo, Hawaii/Hilo HS) made seven saves in his 97 minutes between the pipes for UCSD while his counterpart, Patrick Fry, was forced to make only four saves on the 10 Triton shots
