LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Big West announced Tuesday the conference's latest Track and Field Athletes of the Week, including UC San Diego's
Miles Bennett as the Men's Field Athlete of the Week. The weekly honor is voted on by the league's head coaches.
Â
Bennett won the men's high jump event on Saturday at UCLA's Jim Bush Legends Meet. He was the only competitor to clear 2.16m, doing so on his third attempt. That new personal best sees Bennett now second all-time at UC San Diego in high jump. It is also the top mark in The Best West this season and fifth-best nationally.
Â
A native of Castro Valley, Calif., Bennett is a graduate student studying structural engineering. He has spent his entire collegiate career at UC San Diego, earning his bachelor's degree in the same field last summer. Bennett is also the program record holder in indoor high jump, recording a mark of 2.10m.
Â
The Tritons have now won three Big West Athlete of the Week awards this season. On March 17,
Allyson Abandonato was named Women's Track Athlete of the Week and
Feyi Olukanni was named Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
