LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego's
Hunter Cehelnik and
Chloe Braun sweep the weekly Big West swimming honors, announced by the conference on Tuesday, Jan. 27. This is Braun's second recognition of the season, she was last honored on Nov. 11, following a women's only match up against UC Davis. Cehelnik has also received the award once so far this season. He was recognized on Nov. 18, following a men's road win against UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 15.
At the Tritons' last meet, Sophomore
Hunter Cehelnik captured three event wins against California Baptist. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, led off (20.31) and aided the Tritons in breaking a pool record with their time (1:20.87). Cehelnik swam the third leg for the Tritons' 400 IM Relay win (46.02 split). Cehelnik topped the 100 Freestyle by over a second (43.93).
Against California Baptist, Senior
Chloe Braun claimed three event wins, one relay, and two individuals. In the 100 Breaststroke, Braun set a new pool record with her win (59.69). In the 50 Breaststroke, Braun outpaced her competition with a 28.27. In the 400 IM Relay, Braun swam a 59.51 to aid the Tritons' victory (3:41.08).
So far this season, a squad of Tritons have been honored with the weekly award. Starting off,
Asia Kozan and
Luigi Franco swept the award on Oct. 21. Braun claimed the weekly honor Nov. 11. The following week, on Nov. 18, Cehelnik and
Eva Boehlke were recognized for their performance at the Tritons dual meet against UC Santa Barbara and Pepperdine. Kozan earned her second weekly honor on Nov. 25th, making it the third Big West Swimmer of the Week award in a row the Triton women were recognized with. Boehlke earned her second recognition of the season on Jan. 13, following a tri-meet against USC and UNLV.
UP NEXT
The Triton women will travel cross town to compete against San Diego next Saturday, Jan. 31. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m. at USD Sports Center Pool.
