Tritons Move Up to Second Place in Colorado

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - After Sunday's second round of the Falcon Invitational, the UC San Diego golf team jumped up a spot into second place on the leader board.

Air Force is hosting the 23-team event at Eisenhower Golf Club.

The Tritons are 10-under par after 36 holes of play. They shot an impressive 9-under today after going 1-under in Saturday's opening round.

Two Tritons are among the top-10 in the 115-player field. Davis McDowell is in second place at 7-under and freshman Hanjie Yu sits in seventh at 4-under. Mc Dowell shot a 65 today and made a colossal jump in the standings as he was 26th at the end of Saturday.

Nathan Tseng (19th, 2-under), Francis Catalano (56th, 6-over), and Justin Gill (85th, 6-over) are also competing for the Tritons.

After 36 holes, Gonzaga is in front at 11-under par. Idaho, which led after 18 holes, is tied with UC San Diego for second place.

Individually, Paxton Maxwell from Utah Valley is leading the field at 9-under, two strokes ahead of McDowell.

Three other Tritons are competing in an individual tournament that is separate from the team event. Freshman Ethan Lien, playing in his first collegiate tournament, is fourth at 5-under. Both Leo Cheng and Calvin Kong are 22nd at 1-over.

The team event concludes Monday with round three. The first tee times are at 6:30 a.m. Pacific.
