AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -Â Following Saturday's opening round of the Falcon Invitational, the UC San Diego golf team is tied for third and a pair of Tritons are among the top-10 in the standings.
Air Force is hosting the 23-team event at Eisenhower Golf Club.
UC San Diego shot 1-under par on the par-72 Blue Course, which is playing at 7,301 yards. The Tritons are tied with California Baptist and Utah State for the third position.
Freshman
Hanjie Yu is tied for third at 3-under, while senior
Nathan Tseng is tied for eighth at 2-under in the 115-player field.
Davis McDowell (even, tied for 26th),
Francis Catalano (+4, tied for 77th), and
Justin Gill (+4, tied for 77th) are also competing for the Tritons.
After 18 holes, Idaho is in front at 5-under par.
Jared Abercrombie from California Baptist and Paxton Maxwell from Utah Valley are leading the field at 4-under, one stroke ahead of Yu.
Three other Tritons are competing in an individual tournament that is separate from the team event. Triton freshman
Ethan Lien, playing in his first collegiate tournament, shot 7-under par on Eisenhower's Silver Course and is tied for first place after today's round.
Calvin Kong (-2) is tied for sixth and
Leo Cheng (+5) is tied for 33rd.Â
Texas Arlington's Liam Hartling also shot 7-under.
The Silver Course layout spans 6,510 yards.
The team event continues Sunday with round two. Yu will be the first Triton to tee off at 8:10 a.m. Pacific UC San Diego will be paired with players from Denver, Boise State, and Idaho.Â
The individual tourney's second round is slated for a 7:30 a.m. Pacific start Sunday.
