LA JOLLA, Calif. – A Loyola Marymount first half surge proved too much to overcome for UC San Diego as the Tritons fell 3-1 on Saturday in an exhibition match at Triton Soccer Stadium.
Kai Oppenheim scored the lone Triton goal with a penalty kick conversion in the 21st minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED
LMU capitalized on its first chance of the game, a fortuitous bounce into the box and well-placed jab that put them ahead in the sixth minute.
The Tritons leveled the score in the 21st minute after the Lions goalkeeper took out Sean Ueda. Oppenheim buried the subsequent penalty into the bottom left corner on Ueda's behalf.
LMU reclaimed the lead with six minutes left in the half with a chipped cross into the box that was sliced into the net. They extended the lead three minutes later via a long ball over the top that fell right into the path of a Lion forward, who slotted the ball in for a 3-1 lead.
