Women’s Rowing Enjoys Successful Triton Invitational

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — UC San Diego wrapped up two days of racing on Sunday with three wins over USD to highlight a strong weekend at the Triton Invitational.

The event was held at Chula Vista's Elite Athlete Training Center. All races on Lower Otay Lake were 2,000m. In addition to the races with USD on Sunday, the Tritons faced UCLA on Saturday morning and Saint Mary's that afternoon.

Saturday's conditions were rough throughout the day with a cross headwind that topped out at 20mph. The afternoon slate also brought rain for the rowers to contend with. The weather improved drastically on Sunday, with minimal wind and good conditions all morning.

After racing concluded, the Tritons honored 13 seniors for their time with the program. All 13 have been at UC San Diego for their entire four or five-year careers.

Sunday's festivities also included two boat dedications. A new eight boat, Whistler, was sponsored by and named after the Gwizdak family. A four boat, Reese's Pieces, was funded by a collection of small donations and was named after the daughter of associate head coach Kimberly Dale.
