Tritons Host CSUN for Final Home Series

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego softball returns to La Jolla for their final home series as they host CSUN on April 25 and 26 at Triton Softball Field. The series opens with a Friday night game set for 5 p.m. and will wrap on Saturday with a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. All three games will be live on ESPN+ with live statistics available on UCSDTritons.com.
 
MATCHUPS
Entering the week, the visiting Matadors are 19-22 overall and 12-8 in the Big West. They will be making up the rubber match vs. Hawai'i on Wednesday, April 23 before traveling to La Jolla. Winning their last series over Cal State Bakersfield, the Matadors sit in fourth place Tiara Westbrook leads them at the plate with a .371 batting average and has driven in 32 RBI so far this season. In the circle, Lauryn Carranco has gone to work over 142.1 innings with 16 complete games, 86 strikeouts tallied, and only 58 earned runs allowed for a 2.85 ERA.
 
Currently in sixth place with a 13-25 overall and 11-10 conference record, UC San Diego enters the weekend with on a three-game winning streak. Graduate transfer Jaden Hill continues to lead at the plate with a .390 batting average and .489 on base percentage. Zara Wasserman adds her bat with a team-high 20 RBI and Morgan Eng continues to capitalize on the leadoff spot with 21 runs scored and 27 bases stolen. India Caldwell leads in the circle with a 3.84 ERA and .282 batting average against. The right-handed ace has tallied 93 strikeouts and has allowed only 56 earned runs over 131.1 innings of work. Claire Adams and Callie Christian add their support with 62 strikeouts combined.
 
CSUN leads the all-time vs. series at 7-5 and are currently on a six-game winning streak against UC San Diego. In their last meeting in 2024, CSUN came away with the finale win in a 9-7 result and clinched the series sweep.

LAST TIME OUT
Zara Wasserman led UC San Diego in a comeback victory on Saturday afternoon as she knocked in a team season high five runs for a result of 9-8 over Cal Poly.
 
UC San Diego moves to 13-25 overall and improves to 11-10 in the Big West. Cal Poly moves to 8-33 overall and 3-18 in conference play.
 
Getting the start, freshman Callie Christian tossed 1.2 innings allowing three runs on three hits and three walks. India Caldwell relieved the start and went 5.1 innings giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts. At the plate, Zara Wasserman was 2-for-3 with two doubles knocked, a walk earned, and five RBI tallied. The last time a Triton tallied a five RBI game was in the 2021 season. Morgan Eng added her bat going 4-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. Haley Garcia drove in two more runs and scored two more of her own.
 
WASSERMAN EARNS CONFERENCE WEEKLY HONORS
UC San Diego's Zara Wasserman was named Big West Field Player of the Week on Monday, April 21 after a career performance at Cal Poly.
Leading the Tritons to a three-game sweep, Wasserman slashed .667/.500/.667 over the three games while knocking in nine of her teammates. The first baseman tallied three doubles for a .900 slugging percentage and nine total bases.

Five of her nine RBI came in the finale vs. the Mustangs as the sophomore propelled her team with a comeback victory to secure the sweep. This is a career-high for Wasserman and a feat the Tritons have not accomplished since 2021.

In the field, the Carlsbad product had 16 putouts and one assist. Wasserman is the only consistent starter to have not committed an error in the team's 38 games.

Wasserman is the second Triton recognized for weekly honors in 2025 and the 9th all-time.

CALDWELL EARNS BIG WEST WEEKLY HONORS
UC San Diego's India Caldwell was named Big West Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 24 for her outstanding performance over the weekend. 
 
The Fallbrook product helped the Tritons to their first Big West series win and sweep this season over UC Riverside.
 
Earning three wins this weekend, India Caldwell posted a 0.00 ERA tossing a complete game shutout for a total of 12 innings of work. The right-hander gave up five hits and two walks while striking out 13 and giving up no extra base hits.
 
Caldwell is the first Triton recognized for weekly honors in 2025 and the 8th all-time.
 
CALDWELL NAMED TO BIG WEST PRESEASON TEAM
UC San Diego softball was selected to finish sixth in the Big West as announced in the 2025 Big West Softball Preseason Poll on Thursday afternoon. The Tritons were awarded 43 points by the conference's head coaches and senior, India Caldwell was named to the preseason team.
 
The Fallbrook product led the gold and blue defense from in the circle, tossing 105 strikeouts over 171.1 innings pitched. The right-hander forced a .277 batting average with only 52 walks and 66 earned runs given up in her 16 complete games pitched.
