Big West Slate Begins at Home

UC San Diego will host Long Beach State for Bold Week

LA JOLLA, Calif.— UC San Diego women's basketball will begin its Big West schedule at home for "Bold Week," playing host to Long Beach State.
 
The Tritons (4-4) will take on the Beach (0-6) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in LionTree Arena as part of the conference's early season action. The game will be broadcast regionally on Spectrum SportsNet and streamed via ESPN+. Live statistics will be available via UCSDTritons.com.
 
Saturday is Youth Day in LionTree Arena with the first 250 kids (12 & under) receiving UC San Diego friendship bracelets. The Tritons will also be signing autographs postgame.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tritons put together a strong 2-1 week, defeating Occidental, 87-39, at home before a holiday road trip to the Pacific Northwest. Sabrina Ma put up her first 20-point scoring effort of the season and Erin Condron recorded her second career double-double. 
 
UC San Diego gave No. 22 Washington all it could handle, leading by as many as 11 and holding a 31-30 halftime lead against the program's first top-25 opponent. Rosa Smith scored a game-high 19 points in front of her hometown crowd and Erin Condron recorded a double-double with a career-high 15 rebounds, before the Tritons eventually fell to the Huskies, 67-50. UC San Diego forced a season-high 22 turnovers for UW in the contest.
 
The Tritons bounced back at Portland State, recording their highest point total against a Division I opponent to defeat the Vikings, 94-64. Sabrina Ma tallied her second 20-point scoring effort of the year, starting 5-for-5 from three-point range. Dymonique Maxie set the program's Division I record with 11 assists in the contest. Erin Condron finished one board shy of her third double-double of the week, eventually earning UCU Athlete of the Week for her efforts.

CONDRON EARNS UCU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (DEC. 1)
Junior Erin Condron averaged a double-double in an outstanding week, with 16.3 points and 11.7 rebounds over three games. The Tritons' forward recorded career highs in rebounds (15) and steals (3) against No. 22 Washington and tallied a career high in field goals made (8) against Occidental. Condron shot 57 percent from the field (21-for-37), totaling 49 points, 35 rebounds (9 offensive), three blocks, three steals and two assists.
 
TRITON TAKEAWAYS
The Tritons currently rank second in the Big West in turnover margin (6.75), 34th nationally in the same category and second in the conference in steals (79 total, 9.9 per game). UC San Diego is forcing 20.63 turnovers per game, good enough for third in the Big West and 68th nationally. Makayla Rose ranks third in the Big West with 2.8 steals per game and Dymonique Maxie ranks fifth with 2.4, respectively ranking 56th and 101st nationally.
 
DEPENDABLE DEFENSE 
UC San Diego currently ranks third in the Big West in scoring defense, allowing 60.9 points per game. The Tritons are holding opponents to a 27.6 three-point percentage which ranks third in the conference and 35.9 percent from the field to rank third as well and 60th nationally.
 
ELECTRIC ERIN
Triton forward/center Erin Condron has had a sensational start to her junior campaign, averaging 13.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.0 steal over eight starts. Condron has scored in double-figures six times, tallied two double-doubles and set career highs in points (18) at San Francisco (Nov. 16) and rebounds (15) at No. 22 Washington (Nov. 28). She currently ranks second in the Big West and 62nd nationally in field goal percentage (54.1) and third in the conference in rebounds (66 total, 8.3 per game). Condron also ranks second in conference in total blocks (11) and third in blocks per game (1.38), with both marks ranking in the top 100 nationally.
 
SHARP SHOOTING SABRINA
Senior guard Sabrina Ma ranks first in the Big West in three-point baskets with 21 made threes this season. That tally is good enough for 66th in the NCAA. She ranks third in threes per game (2.63), which ranks 61st nationally, and is second in the conference in three-point attempts (54). Ma currently ranks sixth in the conference in three-point percentage, shooting 38.9 percent from beyond the arc and ninth in field goal percentage (44.2). She has scored in double-figures five times this season with two 20-point performances.
 
DYMO TIME
Point guard Dymonique Maxie currently ranks third in the Big West with 3.5 assists per game, facilitating the Tritons' offense. The junior ranks second in the conference with 28 total assists and fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.5). Maxie set the Tritons' Division I single game record with 11 assists at Portland State (Nov. 30), finishing just three shy of the program's all-time record.
 
RECORDS REACHED IN 2025-26
The Tritons have already set several program records in the early part of the 2025-26 season, including Dymonique Maxie setting the program's Division I single game record with 11 assists at Portland State (Nov. 30). UC San Diego also set the program's points record against a Division I opponent, scoring 94 points against the Vikings (Nov. 30).
 
MA JOINS 1,000 POINT CLUB
Senior Sabrina Ma recorded her 1,000th career point on Nov. 22 against Air Force, reaching the milestone on a three-pointer late in the fourth quarter. Ma recorded 435 of her points with the Tritons after spending the first two seasons at San Jose State.
 
EXPERIENCED ROSTER
UC San Diego returns seven Tritons from the 2024-25 squad that recorded the program's first 20-win season of the Division I era. Starters Gracie Gallegos and Sabrina Ma return, as well as All-Big West preseason honoree Erin Condron. Last season Ma was named Big West Newcomer of the Year and All-Big West Honorable Mention alongside Gallegos, who earned a spot on the Big West Championship All-Tournament Team. 
 
FRESH FACES
The Tritons added six talented newcomers to the squad during the offseason, signing two transfer scholar-athletes and four incoming true freshmen for the 2025-26 season. UC San Diego added 2024-25 Big West Defensive Player of the Year, Makayla Rose (UC Riverside) for her senior season and junior guard Dymonique Maxie (Nevada). Guard Michaela Fairwell (Irmo, S.C.), guard Lev Feiman (Woodland Hills, Calif.), forward Tatum Jones (Aurora, Colo.) and guard/forward Niya Price (Lancaster, Calif.) round out the freshman class for the Tritons.
 
CONDRON NAMED TO PRESEASON COACHES' TEAM
Junior forward Erin Condron was named to the Big West Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Team, selected by the conference's 11 head coaches. Condron had a breakout sophomore season for the Tritons in 2024-25, averaging 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game. Condron appeared in 22 games after missing the first 14 games due to injury, recording 10 double-figure scoring efforts and one double-double.
 
TRITONS PICKED FOURTH IN PRESEASON POLL
The defending Big West champions were picked to finished fourth in the Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 77 points and two first-place votes. Hawai'i was picked to finish first with 91 points and four of the 11 first-place votes, followed closely by UC Irvine with 90 points and four first-place votes as well. UC Davis received one first-place vote and 83 points for third, while UC San Diego received the remaining two first-place votes to rank fourth.
 
UC Santa Barbara was picked to finish fifth with 61 points, followed by Long Beach State (57 points), UC Riverside (51), Cal Poly (34), CSUN (27), Cal State Fullerton (20), Cal State Bakersfield (14).
 
HISTORY MADE
The Tritons women's basketball team had a historical 2024-25 campaign, winning the Big West Championship as the No. 4 seed and recording the first 20-win season of the program's Division I era. UC San Diego made history as the first program to send both its men's and women's basketball teams to the NCAA Tournament in their first season of Division I eligibility.
 
WINNING IN THE CLASSROOM
The Tritons excelled in the classroom in 2024-25, with six scholar-athletes being named to the Big West Winter All-Academic Team, including current Tritons Erin Condron, Gracie Gallegos, Junaé Mahan and Rosa Smith. Additionally, 15 Tritons were named to the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll with 10 earning Highest Honors (3.51-4.00 GPA) including Gracie Gallegos, Sabrina Ma, Nicki Polocheck, Rosa Smith and Damilola Sule.
 
UC SAN DIEGO HEADED TO THE WCC
On Sept. 3, 2025, UC San Diego accepted a formal invitation to join the West Coast Conference (WCC) beginning July 1, 2027. UC San Diego will compete in 14 of the West Coast Conference's 16 sponsored sports, including men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's water polo, baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's golf and women's rowing. The university remains committed to finding a conference affiliation for its sports that will not compete in the West Coast Conference.
 
Beginning in 2027-28, the WCC membership will consist of: University of California San Diego, Loyola Marymount University, University of the Pacific, Pepperdine University, University of Portland, Saint Mary's College, University of San Diego, University of San Francisco, Santa Clara University, and Seattle University. UC San Diego will become the first public institution in the West Coast Conference since the departure of the University of Nevada-Reno in 1979.
 
ANDY FEE NAMED ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT UC SAN DIEGO 
On Sept. 10, 2025, UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla announced the hiring of college sports veteran Andy Fee as the Tritons' new Director of Athletics. Fee will become just the fourth Director of Athletics at UC San Diego since 1966. Fee joins the Tritons after spending the 2024-25 season as Deputy AD at Seattle University. Prior to Seattle U, Fee spent two years at Washington as Deputy AD and Chief of Staff. 
 
Before relocating to Seattle, Fee spent five years as Director of Athletics at Long Beach State from 2017 to 2022. During this time, Long Beach State's athletic programs found great success as the school advanced to the postseason in 18 of its 19 sports programs in his five-year tenure. The Beach won a pair of national championships in men's volleyball and claimed The Big West Commissioner's Cup three times. 
 
No stranger to conference transition, Fee will help guide the Tritons into the West Coast Conference in 2027-28. He also helped guide Washington into the Big Ten and Seattle U into the WCC in July.
 
About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I.
