LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego's
Asia Kozan was recognized as the Big West Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday, Nov. 25th. This is the second Big West recognition of the season for Kozan.
At the Trailblazer Invite, a four-day meet with eight women's teams competing Junior,
Asia Kozan put together one of the strongest overall performances, earning four event victories. Winning the 500 Freestyle (4:46.97), 400 IM (4:16.11), and 200 Butterfly (1:57.60) Kozan swept her individual races. In relays, she anchored UCSD to a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (22.10 split), led off the 800 Freestyle Relay (second, 1:45.81 split), and anchored the 400 Medley Relay (second, 59.55). Kozan also swam a strong third leg on UCSD's 400 Freestyle Relay (third, 48.55 split). Throughout the four days of competition at the Tritons latest meet Kozan never finished outside the top three in any of her individual events.
This is the Tritons sixth Big West weekly honor this season. Previously,
Hunter Cehelnik and
Eva Boehlke won the award Nov. 18th after a road meet against Pepperdine women and UC Santa Barbara.
Asia Kozan and
Luigi Franco swept the award on Oct. 21 for their performances at the CMS and Simon Fraser tri-meet.
Chloe Braun was recognized on Nov. 11th after the women's meet against UC Davis.
UP NEXT
UC San Diego will take a short break from competition before returning to the pool on Saturday, January 3rd at home. The women will be competing against UCLA and Wisconsin; the men will be facing Wisconsin. Tritons will host the meet at Canyonview Aquatic Center, and it is set to begin at 11 a.m.
