STOCKTON, Calif. -Â Justin Gill is second and UC San Diego is fifth after the first 18 holes of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational Thursday.
Pacific is hosting the 17-team tournament at The Reserve at Spanos Park.Â
Gill fired a blistering 5-under par 67 in the opening round, the second lowest round of his career. The junior posted seven birdies, nine pars, and just two bogeys. Four of his birdies came on par-5 holes.
Senior
Nathan Tseng is also in the top-20, tied for 15th at 2-under.
Ian Maspat from the University of San Diego leads at 8-under, three strokes in front of second-place Justin Bai from Pacific, Brandon Knight from Colorado and Travis Robbie from Pacific.
Overall, the Tritons are 7-under.
The University of Colorado and the host Tigers are tied for first place at 12-under. The University of San Diego is third, two strokes behind the leaders at 10-under.
The second round is set for a 7:30 a.m. start Friday. The first Triton to tee off will be senior
Francis Catalano at 8:24 a.m.
