Tritons Back Home to Host CSUN

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego is back at Triton Soccer Stadium for a Big West clash vs. CSUN on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Admission is free, though parking permits are required on the UC San Diego campus 7 days per week. Playing their first match in ten days, the Tritons (2-5-4, 0-2) are in search of their first conference victory. The Matadors (4-6-2 overall) are unbeaten in conference action at 2-0-1. Their seven points places them second in The Big West.
 
UC San Diego has won four of five prior meetings between these two sides, including a 5-3 Tritons win in a 2023 shootout in La Jolla.

LAST TIME VS. THE MATADORS: UC SAN DIEGO 1, CSUN 3 | Stats
UC San Diego took an early lead, but host CSUN scored three unanswered second half goals to earn a 3-1 Big West victory over the Tritons on Matador Soccer Field. The win was the first-ever for CSUN (4-9-1 overall, 2-2-1 Big West) over the Tritons (2-10-2, 0-4-1 Big West).
 
UC San Diego took the lead in the 16th minute when Skylar Enge had a takeaway near midfield. Enge fed Alexis Nguyen who raced up the right side. Nguyen had a beautiful centering feed which found a cutting Lindsey Park. The Triton junior had a brilliant touch from the top of the box and UC San Diego had a 1-0 advantage. In the second half, CSUN scored three quick goals in an eight-minute span to storm from behind and take a 3-1 lead.

The teams also met in a non-conference match in Northridge in 2021 – a 2-1 UC San Diego victory. Kennedy Carter scored both Triton goals that evening.
 
TIBOR TAKES BIG WEST HONORS TWICE
UC San Diego forward Ava Tibor has been named The Big West Freshman of the Week twice this season. She scored two goals – one coming on a penalty kick – as the Tritons downed UNLV, 3-2, on Aug. 24. Tibor's brace was her second of the season in the team's first three matches played. Of seven braces by a Triton in UC San Diego's Division I era (2021-present), Tibor now boasts two of those seven.
  
0 PUTTING UP ZEROES
UC San Diego redshirt freshman goalkeeper Charlotte Wilfert has posted four clean sheets this season. She leads The Big West in saves per game (4.27) and is third in shutouts with four. Here are the Triton GK shutout leaders in Division I:

ASCENDING THE MOUNTAIN
UC San Diego boasted a 2-1-1 record against foes from the Mountain West this fall, earning wins over UNLV and Colorado College, and a draw at San Diego State (Snapdragon Stadium). The Tritons fell 2-1 to No. 25 Colorado State in Fort Collins (Sept. 7).
 
PLENTY OF NEW FACES
UC San Diego women's soccer added ten newcomers to the Tritons' roster for the 2025 season: four transfers and six first-year scholar-athletes. Jenna Grider (Southern Utah), Nadira Haddach (Washington), Charlotte Wilfert (Penn), and Chloe Lee Yates (Boise State) transfered to UC San Diego. First-year Tritons include Molly BlomKennadi BorgSophia KwonAnya LinShiana Samarasinghe, and Olivia Shih.
 
CLASSROOM SUCCESS
Six Tritons earned accolades for their hard work both in the classroom and on the pitch in 2024. Seniors Camryn BorgCourtney Hilliard and Raquel Kalpakoff, and juniors Talisa LinAllie Luo and Lindsey Park were all named to the Academic All-District Team as announced by College Sports Communicators (CSC)
 
HEAD COACH KRISTIN JONES '04
One of the most decorated players to come through the renowned UC San Diego women's soccer program, Kristin Jones is in her seventh season as the program's head coach. The former Triton standout became assistant with the program in 2004 and was elevated to associate head coach in 2015. Her career head coaching record stands at 53-49-24 (.516) over six-plus seasons.

This year's team captains are seniors Lindsey Park and Talisa Lin, along with sophomore Leilah Raad.
