STOCKTON, Calif. - All five of UC San Diego's golfers are under par as the team moved up three spots into second place following Friday's second round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.
Pacific is hosting the 17-team tournament at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
UC San Diego shot 17-under par Friday - 10 strokes better than its first round - and is tied with the University of Colorado in the second position at 24-under after 36 holes of play.
Three Tritons are in the top 10, four are in the top 20 and all five are among the top 30 on the 96-player leader board.
Justin Gill (-8) remains the top Triton in sixth. He is followed by
Nathan Tseng (-7) in seventh,
Hanjie Yu (-6) in 10th,
Davis McDowell (-3) in 16th, and
Francis Catalano (-1) in 27th.
Yu made the biggest jump in the standings today, rising 18 slots from 28th to 10th. Tseng improved by eight spots while McDowell and Catalano elevated themselves 12 positions.
Heading into Saturday's third and final round Pacific leads the tournament at 37-under, 13 strokes in front of UC San Diego and Colorado. The University of San Diego is fourth at 6-under par.
USD's Ian Maspat retained his individual lead and is 10-under. The upper echelon of the player standings is tight with four players at 9-under, Gill at 8-under, and eight other players at 5-under or better.
The third round is set for a 7:30 a.m. start Saturday. The first Triton to tee off will be Catalano at 9:09 a.m. He'll be followed by McDowell (9:18 a.m.), Yu (9:27 a.m.), Tseng (9:36 a.m.) and Gill (9:45 a.m.). they'll be paired with players from Pacific and Colorado.
