BIG WEST POSTSEASON
The Tritons concluded the 2023 season with a 4-3-3 mark in conference play, including wins at tournament second seed UC Davis and third seed Cal Poly. Despite finishing fifth in The Big West standings last year, conference regulations prevented the Tritons from taking part in the six-team Big West Championship. That won't be the case this year with UC San Diego fully eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play. The six-team Big West Championship begins Nov. 3 with the opening round, concluding with the championship match on Nov. 10. The winner of the Big West Championship will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
HILLIARD RECOGNIZED
UC San Diego senior captain
Courtney Hilliard was named
University Credit Union Athlete of the Week on Aug. 26 after scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Tritons' 3-0 win over Nevada. Hilliard has scored twice and added that helper, totaling a team-best five points.
GILLIGAN GETS GOING
Triton freshman
Lana Gilligan is tied for second in The Big West with two assists on the season. Last year,
Alexis Nguyen set a Division I program record with five assists as a freshman.
SKYLAR SETS THE BAR
Despite having not yet made her Triton debut, UC San Diego grad student
Skylar Enge was named to the Big West Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Team. A native of Cardiff, Calif., Enge joins the UC San Diego roster in 2024 after completing her undergraduate career at Pepperdine University. She started all 18 matches in 2023 as a senior and helped lead the Waves to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances during her four years in Malibu.
LAST TIME OUT: CBU 1, UC SAN DIEGO 0 (SEPT. 1) | Box Score
Visiting California Baptist got a goal off a deflection in the 66th minute and made that hold up, as the Lancers held off UC San Diego by a 1-0 score Sunday afternoon at Triton Soccer Stadium. The Lancers improved to 3-3 with the victory, while UC San Diego dropped to 1-4 with Sunday's setback.
LAST TIME VS. THE VANDALS: IDAHO 2, UC SAN DIEGO 0 (8/18/22) | Box Score
UC San Diego goalkeeper

MADERO CAPTURES BIG WEST HONORS

The native of Downey notched her first career goal in the 90th minute during UC San Diego's dramatic come-from-behind victory at UC Davis on Oct. 1. UC San Diego is one of just ten Division I teams with multiple pairs of sisters on its roster. In addition to the Wilson twins, grad student
Kailey Park and junior
Lindsey Park are sisters as well.

WHY THE TRITONS?
The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. Given UC San Diego's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its connections with the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.
