TUCSON, Ariz. – UC San Diego women's tennis concluded its fall schedule with a successful showing at Arizona's Wildcat Invite over the weekend at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. UC San Diego participants included
Julia Haynes,
Kelly Leung,
Naomi Nguyen, and
Adriana Tabares – and all four Tritons earned singles victories over the three-day tournament.
In singles action, grad student
Julia Haynes and senior
Adriana Tabares each went a perfect 3-0 for the weekend. Haynes bested Portland State's Nika Beukers (6-2, 6-0), Arizona's Josie Usereau (6-3, 6-2), and Northern Arizona's Elen Jantacova, 7-6 (1), 6-0. Meanwhile, Tabares downed NAU's Leontina Stojanovic (7-6, 7-5), PSU's Ayra Salim (6-1, 6-2), and PSU's Hana Abdelhamid (6-2, 6-0).
Elsewhere, senior
Kelly Leung picked up a 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory over PSU's Nene Uemura and Triton senior
Naomi Nguyen won 6-0, 6-4 over PSU's Elizabeth Strongina.
In doubles play, Tabares and Leung beat Portland State's Perkins and Salim, 6-1 Saturday. On Sunday, Tabares teamed with Nguyen to top NAU's Andrea Noguera and Stojanovic, 6-3.
The Wildcat Invite wrapped up fall for play for the Tritons. UC San Diego will open its spring season back in Tucson on Jan. 17 with a match at Arizona. The Tritons' full spring schedule will be announced soon.
