LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Tennis Recruiting Network announced its annual recruiting class rankings Friday, and UC San Diego women's tennis is featured for the second-straight year. The Tritons are ranked No. 20 nationally among all mid-major programs, their highest ranking in program history.
Last year's recruiting class marked the first time the Tritons appeared in the mid-major rankings. That group checked in at No. 23. This year's incoming class is one of only two Big West schools featured in the rankings (Sacramento State).
Head coach
Sebastian Bader and associate head coach
Jake De Vries have secured three commitments from this year's high school recruiting class. The group is highlighted by Sonya Goldberg, the program's first five-star recruit since moving to NCAA Division I in 2020. The Orinda, California, native is ranked No. 45 nationally and No. 10 in California among all graduating high schoolers.
Goldberg will be joined in La Jolla by fellow Californian Cassie Blakey, a four-star recruit from Palos Verdes Estates. Rounding out the group is Kannchaya Chungwatana, an international recruit from Thailand.
The rankings only include high school recruits. The Tritons will also add transfer scholar-athlete Emma Pell from William & Mary to the team next season. Pell is a graduate transfer who was a four-star recruit in 2022. She is a native of Kentfield, California.
The newcomers join a Triton team that featured five underclassmen in the 2025-26 season. Two-thirds of UC San Diego's lineup spots at this season's Big West Championship were filled by those underclassmen.
