LA JOLLA, Calif. – After an 11-day layoff, UC San Diego plays its final two road matches of the 2024 regular season this week when the Tritons visit Cal State Fullerton (Thursday, 7 p.m.) and UC Riverside (Sunday, 6 p.m.). Last time out, the Tritons battled UC Davis to a scoreless draw on Oct. 13.
The Tritons are looking for their first Division I win over Cal State Fullerton (0-3). UC San Diego is unbeaten against the Highlanders (1-0-2) as members of The Big West. Both matches this week will have live broadcasts on ESPN+ and live stats available on UCSDTritons.com.

ROCKET BLASTS OFF
Senior forward
Raquel Kalpakoff led the way for the Tritons, scoring the team's lone goal in a 1-0 road win at San Diego State (Sept. 12) – the Tritons' first-ever victory over the Aztecs. In the 18th minute, Kalpakoff raced into the box, taking a centering feed and firing a left-footed rocket into the back of the net to put UC San Diego in front. Kalpakoff leads the team and ranks sixth in The Big West with five goals scored this season. Her pair of game-winners sits tied for third in the conference. She was named UCU Athlete of the Week on Sept. 16.

Raquel Kalpakoff, it's been a long and winding journey. She began playing soccer and other sports at a young age. Her tight family bond has grown ever stronger over the years and her family regularly travels great distances to support her from the stands. All the while, her photography hobby has blossomed into a love for art, specifically painting. An environmental policy major, Kalpakoff can routinely be found painting in La Jolla and her subjects range from landscapes to pet portraits. She has a dedicated
social media account to showcase her work.

University Credit Union Athlete of the Week on Aug. 26 after scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Tritons' 3-0 win over Nevada. For the season, Hilliard has scored twice and added a pair of helpers, totaling a team-best six points.
SKYLAR SETS THE BAR
Despite having not yet made her Triton debut, UC San Diego grad student
Skylar Enge was named to the Big West Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Team. A native of Cardiff, Calif., Enge joins the UC San Diego roster in 2024 after completing her undergraduate career at Pepperdine University. She started all 18 matches in 2023 as a senior and helped lead the Waves to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances during her four years in Malibu.
BARRETTO ENTERS THE CHAT
Making just her second career start, Triton sophomore goalkeeper
Bella Barretto posted a clean sheet with six saves in UC San Diego's 1-0 victory at San Diego State (Sept. 12). On Sept. 16, she was named Big West

Visiting Cal State Fullerton scored a goal late in the first half and made it stand up as the Titans held off UC San Diego, one-nil, in a Big West match at Triton Soccer Stadium. The victory moved the Titans to the top of the Big West table.

UC San Diego (4-8-5 overall, 3-3-3 Big West) closed out its final home match of the season surrounded by family and friends celebrating the team's eight seniors, all of whom played an integral role in holding off a determined UC Riverside to a scoreless tie inside Triton Soccer Stadium.
BIG WEST POSTSEASON
The Tritons concluded the 2023 season with a 4-3-3 mark in conference play, including wins at tournament second seed UC Davis and third seed Cal Poly. Despite finishing fifth in The Big West standings last year, conference regulations prevented the Tritons from taking part in the six-team Big West Championship. That won't be the case this year with UC San Diego fully eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play. The six-team Big West Championship begins Nov. 3 with the opening round, concluding with the championship match on Nov. 10. The winner of the Big West Championship will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

HEAD COACH KRISTIN JONES '04
One of the most decorated players to come through the renowned UC San Diego women's soccer program, Kristin Jones is in her seventh season as the program's head coach. The former Triton standout became assistant with the program in 2004 and was elevated to associate head coach in 2015. Her career head coaching record stands at 50-43-19 (.531) over six-plus seasons.

MADERO CAPTURES BIG WEST HONORS
Sophomore
Karize Madero garnered Big West All-Freshman Team honors following the 2023 campaign. Madero played significant minutes in all 18 matches, making 12 starts for the Tritons. The native of Downey notched her first career goal in the 90th minute during UC San Diego's dramatic come-from-behind victory at UC Davis on Oct. 1. Madero is the second Triton all-time to be named to the Big West All-Freshman Team, joining goalkeeper
Keara Fitzgerald in 2021.
SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM
The UC San Diego women's soccer program earned the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award for 2023-24. The award recognizes exemplary work in the classroom. As a team, the Tritons posted a 3.34 grade point average (GPA) during the 2023-24 school year.

The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. WOMEN'S SOCCER ON TRITONCAST
About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors.
