LA JOLLA, Calif. – Hosting Arizona Western College in a Sunday night exhibition, the Tritons defeated the Matadors 4-1 in regulation time. The two teams competed in a third period of 30 minutes in which 3 goals were scored changing the score to 6-2.
Â
The gold and blue shared the goal scoring with one goal in the first half and three in the second. Attacking early,
Jack Hagan buried a shot on a give-and-go from
Andrew Valverde to
Max Carvalho to Hagan's right foot. The senior put the Tritons on the board in the third minute of the match and held the Matadors scoreless until the 18th minute.
Â
In the second half,
Evan Wellerstein snuck in a header on a crowded corner kick after
Alessandro Allen taped the corner into
Alan Kim who sent it back to Allen for the cross. Wellerstein's height prevailed as he found the right back corner of the net from the left side. Ten minutes later, Hagan's assist to
Brian Arens put the Tritons up 3-1 in the 65th minute. Allen added his own goal when Iñaki Iribarren sent it to the wing for the midfielder to nail it in.
