PROVO, Utah - Following two rounds of the 58th PING Cougar Classic Friday, UC San Diego's
Davis McDowell is tied for 11th and the UC San Diego men's golf team is 15th.
BYU is hosting the two-day, 54-hole tournament at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah. There are 16 teams and 92 players in contention.
The third and final round gets underway Saturday at 8 a.m. (Pacific) with the Tritons' first group teeing off at 8:10 a.m. (Pacific). It can be followed with
live scoring.
HOW IT HAPPENED
McDowell, a redshirt sophomore, is five-under par with a 139. He had the low score of the day for the Tritons with a 67 in the opening round and followed with an even-par 72 in the second.
UC San Diego is 11-over after carding rounds of 291 and 296.
Host BYU, ranked 44th in the country, leads the field with a 543, 33-under par. The Cougars had rounds of 273 and 270. They lead by 18 strokes over second-place Utah Tech.
Individually, Boise State's Max Charles is in front with a 13-under 131. He carded rounds of 68 and 63 and is four strokes ahead of second-place Brock Goyen of BYU and Caden Weber of Utah Valley.
The Tritons were even on par-three holes, which ranks second among all teams. They also amassed 116 pars, tied for the fourth-most.
Sophomore
Kyle Dougherty cupped an eagle on the par-five 13th in the second round.
The Riverside course is playing at 7,142 yards for the event.
