LA JOLLA, Calif.— Triton softball returns home to host Cal State Fullerton for a three-game conference series at Triton Softball Field. Action begins on Friday, April 14 with a nightcap and is followed by a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.
 
CSUF enter the series at 8-4 in Big West play and 21-16 overall. The Titans are on a two-game winning streak after winning the final games in their series vs. CSUN this past weekend.

The Tritons are currently 5-7 in Big West and 15-22 overall. UC San Diego has dropped the past three Big West series to UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i, and most recently Long Beach State. The gold and blue has won every Friday game of each series only to be swept in the Saturday doubleheaders.

LAST TIME OUT
UC San Diego dropped their weekend series to Long Beach State as they were swept in the doubleheader on Saturday, April 8.
 
In game one, Gabby Williams got the start for the Tritons in the circle and allowed one earned run with five strikeouts and two walks. After getting hit by a line drive, Williams retired with Shelby Thompson coming on as relief. Thompson allowed three runs on two hits with no walks and two hit-by-pitch. The Triton defense gave up two critical errors allowing Beach to score. At the plate, five Tritons recorded five hits with no runs scored. Pinch hitter Teagan Dobson was 1-for-1 with Sophia Real and Keila Bosinger going 1-for-2.
 
Getting the start in the circle for the rubber match, Kaia Simpson allowed one run on four hits over three innings of work. Jada Cecil came in as relief, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and two walks. Morgan Eng was 2-for-3 with a run scored at the plate. Bobbi Aguirre was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Keila Bosinger was walked once and scored a run.
 
UP NEXT

UC San Diego returns to the road and heads north to UC Davis for a three-game series. Beginning on April 22, the Tritons will take on the Aggies in an afternoon doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm. The series will wrap the following day, April 23, in a single-game finale beginning at 11:00 am. Live stats will be available for all three games on ucsdtritons.com.

CECIL MAKES PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Sophomore Jada Cecil earns preseason recognition as she is named to the 2023 Big West Preseason Coaches' Team after a breakout rookie campaign.
 
Cecil returns to the circle for the Tritons after a dominant rookie season. Tossing 230 strikeouts over 174.1 innings of work with an ERA of 1.62, Cecil went 20-4 in the regular season for the gold and blue.
 
She broke three records in the 2022 season: the single-game high strikeouts, and the individual season-high strikeouts, and assisted the pitching staff in snapping the 20-year-old team single-season strikeout record as well.
 
The right-hander earned Big West Pitcher and Freshman Pitcher of the Year, making the conference First Team and All-Freshman team. Recognized nationally, she was a Top 10 Finalist for Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year and earned NFCA West Region Second Team honors.
 
BIG WEST PRESEASON POLL

2022 RECAPPED
In the 2022 season, the Tritons finished with an even record overall (28-28) and a winning record in The Big West (15-12).  It was a historical season as the Tritons made their first NCAA DI postseason appearance at the NISC Tournament in Colorado. They were the first UC San Diego team to make a DI postseason appearance.
 
Six Tritons earned All-Big West honors, including Jada Cecil earning Pitcher of the Year and Freshman Pitcher of the Year. Gabby Williams and Jada Cecil both earned All-West Region honors from the NFCA as well.

WHO'S BACK?
The team is returning 17 players, seven seniors: Keila Bosinger, Clarissa Reynoso, Kelley Renner, Kaia Simpson, Mikaila Pancino, Sophia Real, and Bobbi Aguirre; five juniors: Zoe Richards, Mariah Melendez, Deena Pederson, Shelby Thompson, and Gabby Williams; five sophomores: Jada Cecil, Morgan Eng, Marissa Hassis, Alexa DeMarse, and Reilly Erickson.
 
NEW FACES
Joining the team this season are six freshmen and one junior transfer:   Kayleigh Coberly, Lily Hermosillo, Georgia Heathcock, Hailey Mulligan, Hannah Allen, Claire Adams, and Teagan Dobson (transfer).
