Peter Selcho Named to U.S. Men's U21 National Training Team

LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC San Diego men's volleyball player Peter Selcho is among 21 of the country's top U21 athletes to be selected to the U.S. Men's U21 National Training Team. The team was recently announced by USA Volleyball.

All 21 will participate in a training camp Sept. 9-17 in Anaheim, California. From the training team, 12 will be selected to compete at the 2022 U21 Men's Pan American Cup in Havana, Cuba, Sept. 18-26.

Selcho is a 6-foot-5 middle blocker from Fountain Valley, Calif., and a 2021 graduate of Servite High School in Anaheim, Calif. A two-time team captain at Servite, he garnered First Team All-CIF, First Team All-Trinity League, and AVCA Second Team All-America accolades.

As a true freshman at UC San Diego over the 2021-22 academic year, Selcho redshirted for the Tritons and is poised to make his collegiate debut this coming season.

Selcho is majoring in international business and is a member of UC San Diego's Roosevelt College.

"I feel extremely blessed to receive this opportunity to be on the U21 National Training Team," said Selcho. "I'm looking forward to progressing my skills with this talented team and coaching staff and I can't wait to represent my school, my family, and my nation in the near future."

Over half the U21 team is from USA Volleyball's Southern California region, and two each hail from the Great Lakes and Northern California regions. Also represented are the Florida, Iowa, Arizona, Badger, and Iroquois Empire regions.

Balboa Bay Volleyball Club coach Andy Read, who led the U.S. Men's National Team to a bronze medal showing at the 2021 Men's Pan American Cup, returns for this year's U21 edition. He'll be assisted by Ohio State associate head coach Hudson Bates. Alex Hurlburt, lead volleyball trainer at The Volleyball Institute, is the team's performance analyst, and USA Volleyball's Donovan Martinez is the team leader.
