Golubovic to Compete for Australia at World Championships

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Former Triton standout decathlete Daniel Golubovic is set to compete at the World Athletics Championships as a member of the Australian national team. The championships, which run from July 15-24, are the highest level of international track and field competition, alongside the Olympic Games. Golubovic will compete in the decathlon, which takes place over the final two days of the championships, July 23 and 24.

The 2016 UC San Diego grad, who still holds the school record in decathlon, has represented Australia at two prior international events, but never at this high a level. Last December, he took gold at the Oceania Combined Events Championships with a personal-best result of 8336 points. In June, he was on the Australian squad for the Oceania Athletics Championships.

As a Triton, Golubovic claimed the 2014 CCAA decathlon title and competed in the event at the 2014 and 2016 NCAA Division II National Championships, finishing 12th and 6th respectively. After graduating from UC San Diego, he transferred to Duke for the 2017 season, winning the ACC decathlon title and finishing 11th at the NCAA Division I National Championships.

Golubovic currently competes and trains with Tigers Athletics Club in Brisbane, Australia, and has been representing Australia since 2020. Following the World Championships, he will be on the Australian team for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, which begin on July 28.
