LA JOLLA, Calif. – For the second straight season, the UC San Diego women's tennis doubles tandem of sophomore
Ella Pachl and junior
Sophie Pearson were recognized as All-Big West Honorable Mention on Wednesday. Playing primarily at No. 1 singles, Pachl also garnered All-Big West Honorable Mention for her singles play.
Playing exclusively at the No. 1 position, Pachl and Pearson combined for five wins in doubles play in 2022 – including a 3-1 mark against Big West opponents before Pearson suffered a season-ending injury on Feb. 26 at Long Beach State.
The duo was recognized as
Honorable Mention All-Big West in 2021 as well.
Pachl put together a strong campaign in singles action as a sophomore. She helped lead the Tritons to their first win over UC Irvine and was subsequently named
Big West Player of the Week on Feb. 9. Overall, she was 3-3 against Big West foes at No. 1, winning her final two matches.
As a team, UC San Diego doubled its win total from 2021 both overall and in Big West play in the second year of its transition to NCAA Division I. The Tritons will graduate three from this year's roster while returning Pachl, Pearson and 10 others.
