HANOI, Vietnam –
Miranda Renner from UC San Diego's swim and dive team represented the Philippines in the 31st Southeast Asian Games and medaled twice during the games' duration from May 12-23.
About 5,000 athletes represented 11 nations at the two-week event. Athletes competed in 40 different events including Olympic standard events along with traditional games and martial arts popular within the region. This year's SEA Games were postponed from 2021 due to COVID-19.

Miranda Renner competed for Team Philippines at the SEA Games and set two team records and a national record for the Philippines. Her first school record came in the 100-meter freestyle swimming a 56.95 time. Renner took third at the Games in the 100-meter, marking her the first swim and dive scholar-athlete to win an international medal in the program's history.
Renner snagged another medal swimming as the anchor for the 100-meter medley relay. Swimming a 56.85 split, the relay team was able to take silver for the Philippines.
In the 50-meter butterfly, Renner set a national record for the Philippines with a blazing 27.03 time. The record was previously set in 2019 at the Manila SEA Games.
Due to her outstanding performance at the SEA Games, Renner has qualified for the 19th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, which runs from June 18 to July 3. Renner is currently a junior studying Microbiology and primarily swims sprint freestyle and breaststroke events.
